No Sex Please, We're Wakefield Scholars: The Regulation of Sex in Wakefieldian Otago

Wakefield's scheme for systematic colonisation included an article about the importance of a gender balance in the settlers and the need for young married couples or young people of marriageable age in order to provide a new colony with sufficient future labourers. This thesis examines how this article was put into effect in early Otago to regulate the sexual behaviour of colonists and other settlers.
