On the 23rd of July, over 30 students gathered to take part in the very first Model ASEAN Meeting in New Zealand, organised by UN Youth Otago and supported by the Department of Politics.
Each student represented a different country within the Association for Southeast Asian Nations, and took part in debates around the issue of migrant workers rights and improving the overall political, economic and social-cultural well being of the region. It was fantastic to see student from a wide variety of disciplines such as Commerce, Science, Law, and Medicine come together to put themselves in the shoes of international diplomats and engage in the multi-disciplinary nature of the global issues that are currently being faced. Overall the event was highly successful in sharing the vision of ASEAN and the unique challenges it faces as an organisation.
