Parental Leave

The University recognises and celebrates the importance of whānau by providing a comprehensive and inclusive parental leave policy which aims to support all parents appropriately.

Subject to meeting the eligibility criteria, University staff may apply for up to 52 weeks of unpaid parental leave, plus a two week paid leave provision for partners. The birth mother or primary parent in the case of adoptions can also take up to twelve weeks of the parental leave entitlement as paid leave. However, the policy is flexible, and if both parents work for the University they may choose to share the leave entitlements as best suits the needs of their family.

Please note that staff may also be eligible for the government entitlement and can download the IR880 Form from the Inland Revenue Website.

For further information please see the Parental Leave Policy.

Application Forms

There are separate applications forms for the birth mother (or primary parent in the case of adoption) and for partners (where the partner is a University staff member). These are available in the Get It Done section to the right.
