Sick Leave
Refer to your employment agreement for your sick leave entitlement.
You should notify your Manager of absence due to sickness whenever possible within 30 minutes of normal starting time. Sick leave is computed against working days only (ie weekends and public holidays are not included).
All permanent and fixed term staff, whether academic or general, are entitled to sick leave, the precise amount varying according to the individual staff member's employment agreement, work pattern, and the date on which they commenced employment with the University.
All casual staff, whether academic or general, are entitled to paid sick leave only when they have:
- completed 6 months continuous service, or
- worked for the University for an average of ten (10) hours a week during that period; and no less than one (1) hour in every week during that period or no less than forty (40) hours in every month during that period.
To record sick leave please refer back to the main leave & holidays page, or the Get It Done section to the right.
A medical certificate is required when absences exceed five consecutive working days, and for absences of shorter periods if required by the University in individual cases.
