Employee Assistance Programme
The Employee Assistance Programme (E.A.P.) is a free, confidential counselling service which the University of Otago makes available to eligible staff.
The purpose of the Programme is to provide short term, brief, intervention counselling. The counselling support can be used when personal problems may be disrupting work and/or home life.

Availibility
The Programme is available to:
- All permanent and fixed full time staff,
- All Part time with .5 FTE or greater and with an employment contract(s) totalling 12 months or more.
Referrals

Informal Referral
Initiated by a staff member when they recognise a problem themselves, or following a suggestion from a colleague, family member, or friend.
- Workplace Referral
Recommended by a supervisor or Head of Department when impaired work performance continues after normal supervision practices have been followed. (The offer can be declined, i.e. the Programme is voluntary.)
All workplace referrals must be co-ordinated through Human Resources.
How to Access the Programme
There are three options available:

Direct access to one of the Counsellors
A telephone call can be made direct to one of the counsellors and an appropriate time will be arranged to meet.
If you get an answering service please state that you work for the University of Otago, leave your phone number and the best time to be contacted.
In non urgent cases counselling will be offered within 5 days.

Access via Stratos
Stratos Ltd has been contracted to provide the University of Otago's E.A.P. Stratos contracts with competent professional counsellors nationwide.
