About Te Manahua (NZUWiL)

Universities New Zealand encourages and supports women who are or aspire to be leaders in the tertiary education sector through its annual Te Manahua New Zealand Universities Women in Leadership ( NZUWiL ) Programme for academic and professional staff.

The Te Manahua (NZUWiL) programme booklet provides further information on the founding and development of the programme, which began in 2007 and now has over 500 alumni.

The Academic Divisional Office facilitates the University's participation in Te Manahua NZUWiL programmes.

2024 Te Manahua NZUWiL programme dates

Location: The Bolton Hotel, Wellington

Academic staff programme: Monday, 17 June – Friday  21 June 2024

Professional staff programme: Monday  19 August – Friday  23 August 2024

Programme costs are covered by the University, including travel arrangements, which are organised by the Academic Divisional Office. Programme costs include airport transfers and meals for the duration of the programme. Incidental expenses beyond this are the responsibility of the attendee's Department or Division.

University nomination process

Each university provides two nominations to NZUWiL for each programme. In addition to these nominees NZUWiL also offers a total of two scholarships across the entire university sector for Māori and Pacific women for each programme.

Applications for nomination will be considered by a panel convened by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), and nominees will be notified prior to their applications being submitted to NZUWiL .

NZUWiL will contact successful nominees directly on completion of the selection process.

  • Friday, 9 February 2024 –applications due for BOTH PROGRAMMES
    Completed forms (see below section "Nomination and scholarship forms") in Word format, your PVC 's endorsement (by signature or email) and your CV , are due by email to dvc.academic@otago.ac.nz for both programmes by Friday, 9 February 2024. Please note the same form is used for the Otago selection process.
  • Week starting 19 February 2024 – Nominees notified
  • Week starting 26 February 2024 – University nominations forwarded to Te Manahua NZUWiL
