The Department offers a one-year Honours degree, which can be taken by graduates who have completed a major in Information Science (or related discipline). The honours year exposes students to a greater number of topics in Information Science and extends their depth of knowledge in their chosen area. The degree can also act as preparation for postgraduate research.

Admission

Generally, students should have:

  1. completed a major in Information Science, but with an additional 300-level INFO paper (i.e. the 300-level requirement is INFO312, two of INFO321-324, and two other papers drawn from INFO300-level papers, SENG301, TELE303); and
  2. obtained an average grade of B+ or better in the best four 300-level papers in the major subject

Requirements

INFO490 - Dissertation, plus 80 further points from INFO 400-level papers, SENG401, TELE404.

Note: it is also possible to do honours in Software Engineering, or in Telecommunications.

Subject requirements are:

  • Software Engineering: SENG401, INFO409, SENG490, and 40 further 400-level points, normally drawn from SENG, INFO and COSC papers
  • Telecommunications: TELE490, and a further 80 points from 400-level TELE or approved 400-level COSC, ELEC, INFO, SENG or PHSI papers
