The Otago International Friendship Network (OIFN)

St Clair

The Otago International Friendship Network (OIFN) connects new incoming international students with friendly returning Otago students to help them settle into Dunedin and adjust to life at the University of Otago.

Each semester we divide OIFN applicants into five 'House' groups.  Together, the House Captains run events during Orientation Week and throughout the semester to keep everyone in their House connected.  Within the OIFN Houses there are also Cluster Groups which are usually made up of five students, including two returning Otago students (known as Otago Host Partners) and three new international students (known as International Partners).

In order to be placed in a Cluster Group you need to apply at least two weeks before the beginning of the semester you will be starting at Otago.  However, if you apply to join OIFN after this time you can still join a House Group.

OIFN is a fun and supportive way to meet people!

Apply to become a New International Partner

New international students, please apply here to join OIFN in semester 1, 2018.

Apply to become an Otago Host Partner

To be an Otago Host Partner you must have previously studied at the University of Otago for at least one full semester.

You must read and understand the Otago Host Partner Information Guide (289kb) before applying.

The creation of Cluster Groups for semester 1, 2018 will begin in late January.  We aim to place you in a Cluster Group and email you the members' contact details one week before the semester starts.  (Please note that placement is dependent on the numbers of New International Partner applicants).

If you are a returning Otago student and can definitely commit to at least one hour per week for the first six weeks of the semester to spend with a Cluster Group, please apply here to be an Otago Host Partner for semester 1, 2018.

If you have any questions about OIFN please email the Network Coordinator.
