National Injury Query System: Welcome

Welcome to IPRU's interactive National Injury Query System (NIQS).

Choose a query type: Fatal or Non-fatal.

What does NIQS do?

There are two parts to NIQS. The Fatal Mortality Query enables you to determine the number of injury deaths in New Zealand based on your selection of years, mechanism/cause, manner/intent, age group, and gender. The Non-Fatal Injury Query allows you to do the same for injuries that result in admission to public hospitals in New Zealand. The vast majority of injured people requiring inpatient treatment in the acute phase are admitted to public hospitals. These data provide a reasonable indication of serious injury in New Zealand.

Mechanism/Cause and Manner/Intent. These are based on the matrix of E-code groupings to be found at NCIPC.

More complicated queries

This system is intended to provide relatively basic information. If it cannot answer your question you should send an email to StatsEnquiry@ipru.otago.ac.nz You should also note that IPRU has published a wide range of articles on the incidence of specific injury events. You can search our publications database for possible articles.

If you wish to provide feedback or report problems with NIQS please use our feedback page.
