Computing devices that go missing can include laptops, tablets or smartphones. ITS recommends insuring your devices against theft.

Protect the information on your computing device by:

  • performing regular backups, encrypting sensitive information, and using strong passwords
  • using anti-theft software which allows you to track and/or remotely erase devices. This increases your chances of recovering the device, or deleting sensitive information if it can't be recovered
  • notifying the Campus Cop or the NZ Police immediately if your computing device goes missing. You should also change any important passwords, especially if they were saved on the missing device
