Endnote
EndNote is a software tool that you can use to manage bibliographies and references. It enables you to:
- create your bibliographies in word-processing software such as Microsoft Word and WordPerfect.
- store all of your bibliographic references in your own private, searchable reference library.

System requirements for EndNote software
EndNote Libraries are compatible across Macintosh and Windows platforms.
Windows
Endnote versions X6, X5 and X4 require:
- Windows XP (service pack 3), Vista (32/64 bit) and Windows 7 (32/64 bit), installed with latest service packs
- Pentium 450Mhz or faster
- Hard disk with 180MB available
- 256 MB RAM
- CD-ROM drive required for installation
- Internet connection required to search online databases
- EndNote files are compatible across Windows and Mac OS X platforms
- Endnote is Unicode compliant
- To use MSI installation, it is necessary to have the latest Windows updates installed.
Mac OS
Endnote version X6 requires:
- Mac OS X (10.6.8x, 10.7.x, 10.8x)
- Intel-based Macintosh
- Hard disk with 400 MB available
- Minimum 256 MB of available RAM
EndNote version X5 requires:
- Mac OS X (10.5.x, 10.6.x, 10.7.x)
- Intel-based Macintosh
- Hard disk with 400 MB available
- Minimum 256 MB of available RAM
Endnote version X4 requires:
- System OS X (10.5.x and 10.6.x)
- PowerPC or Intel Macintosh 450MHz or higher
- Hard drive with at least 180MB available
- Minimum of 256MB of available RAM
Endnote software usage and licence terms
- Endnote is available to all University of Otago staff and students.
- Staff and students can use Endnote software on their home computers for University work only. They can only do so while they are University of Otago employees or students.
- An annual licence for Endnote software is available through ITS. The licence period is 31 December to 30 December.
Prices for Endnote software
University Departments
There is no charge to install Endnote on any University-owned computer.
Students
The cost of Endnote software is $25.00 (including GST) per computer for the entire time a student is enrolled at the University of Otago. This also entitles students to any upgrades released while they are enrolled at the University of Otago.
Ordering Endnote software through ITS
University Departments
Please complete the order form on our software licence order form page to order Endnote software. Remember to state an account code and username/computer ID with your order.
Staff who wish to use Endnote software on their home computer also need to complete a Work at Home Application form (.pdf, 54KB) and submit it to ITS.
Students
- Students who are studying on campus can call into ITS Reception to purchase the software or submit their Student Endnote Application form (.pdf, 69KB).
- Distance students also need to complete the Student Endnote Application form (.pdf, 69KB).
- Please return the completed form to ITS with your payment or pay by internet banking.
- You will receive your Endnote software through the post or ITS will email you to advise where you can download the software.
