Student Support in the UniversityAcademic ProgressAll members of staff are ready to see any student at any convenient time to discuss their work or specific problems, academic or otherwise.
Mäori Support ServicesThe Otago University Mäori Centre http://www.otago.ac.nz/maoricentre/ works from a kaupapa Mäori philosophy. The Centre strives to support Mäori students in their pursuit of academic excellence and works to strengthen cultural and social networks available for students. Student ServicesThe University provides health, counselling, chaplaincy and career advisory services for all students. Students With DisabilitiesStudents with disabilities are encouraged to contact Law Faculty staff and advise them of their needs. The University's Disabilities Information and Support office is located at 262 Leith Street. The Manager, Ms Donna-Rose McKay, (telephone 479 8245) or the advisory staff will discuss any problems disabled students may be having with their studies and can advise them about financial assistance from the Academic Facilitation Fund.
Student Learning CentreThe Student Learning Centre offers a range of services to assist all students to improve their study and learning skills. Workshops are held regularly on a wide range of topics designed to make your study more manageable and enjoyable and to help you develop skills to take into life beyond university. All services are free of charge to enrolled students. Drop in and see what the Centre offers. HarassmentA list of Contact Persons, who will provide support and advice to victims of harassment, is available from the SOULS office (Hocken Building 8C11). In accordance with the University policy on ethical behaviour these people will respond to complaints promptly and with sensitivity, provide support and general advice, and advise the complainant of action that may be taken. "Harassment" includes sexual harassment, and the abuse or improper assumption of power or authority (academic, supervisory or administrative) by one person over another. Copies of the University's policy may be obtained from the Registry or from the University website.
Law Library
Study space occupies three floors and includes a computer lab and wireless Internet connections. Law Library staff provide one-to-one research consultation, database tutorials, and tours, to ensure students are able to accomplish their research effectively and efficiently. Technology & Study SpaceStudents at the Faculty of Law are provided with the necessary technology environment to enable them to focus on their studies. Students are assigned email and network accounts, which allow them to access the Otago network from on or off campus. International studentsThe University’s International Student Office serves as a resource for international students. Its services include assistance regarding immigration matters and support in adjusting to life in New Zealand. Comprehensive information for international students is available at the International Student Office web site. HousingThe university has several managed halls of residence for first year and later students. If you prefer private accommodation, living costs in Dunedin are very affordable, with a variety of options within walking distance of the University campus.
