When Webber became life member of the National Model Railway Association of Victoria in August 1954, Mr Russ Siddall, secretary of the Association, asked for more biographical details. Indeed, all Siddall knew of Webber was ‘that you are buying a life membership, and you possess a typewriter!” Here Webber is busy at his typewriter again, asking the General Manager of the Ceylon (Sri Lanka) Railways for a copy of their One Hundred Years. He also reveals that despite losses his collection is ‘some 26,000 items’, and that he obtained from a previous Manager some of his blue-prints of locomotives. Webber almost always begins his letters in the third-person: ‘Writer who…’
