As a frequent traveller on New Zealand rail, Webber amassed a number of local timetables. He paid one shilling (10 cents) for this colourful 1950 North Island rail and road services timetable, and the same for its companion ‘South Island’ volume. In an effort to be comprehensive, he tried every known source in the search for items for his collection. Taihape was a key intermediate station for the Northern Express and provided an eagerly awaited 10 minute refreshment stop for rail travellers. The two publications that he received from the Town Clerk no doubt stressed the importance of rail in the town’s early history and development.
