Discovery of a College of Jesuits

Discovery of a College of Jesuits

Herbert Croft (1603-1691), bishop of Hereford, a trained Jesuit, and a staunch monarchist, was fanatical about the growth of popery in England. Croft's treatise on the Jesuits in Hereford was reprinted in Dublin, and again attributed to the king’s printers Benjamin Tooke and Andrew Crook. Note the annotation linking Monmouth Gaol with 'Purgatory'.
