If you are keen to work in the field of marine mammal research you need to have at least a Bachelors degree in biological sciences (for example ecology, zoology or environmental science). You will also need to get some practical experience. In New Zealand you can contact the Department of Conservation, Project Jonah, Coastguard and other organisations. We recommend that you work as a volunteer in one of our research projects before applying to enrol for an MSc or PhD project.
