The Department of Marine Science was established in 1992 and has grown rapidly to become a multidisciplinary department focusing on both postgraduate teaching and pure and applied research in marine science and aquaculture.

Marine Science staff and students conduct research throughout the South Island of New Zealand including Marlborough Sounds, Otago Harbour, Stewart Island and Fiordland.

Otago Marine Science staff appear in videos explaining their science for the benefit of teachers and students on the Science Learning Hub. Visit the Science Learning Hub here
