MARI 412 Principles of Physical Oceanography

Course Content:
This course aims to give students a broad general knowledge of
physical oceanographic processes and of the general circulation
of the world oceans. Students will also develop a qualitative understanding
of oceanic processes.
Topics covered include :
- General circulation in the oceans
- Ekman layers and geostrophic currents
- Ocean waves
- Ocean tides
- Mixed layers and internal waves
- Estuarine Flows

Corequisites:
Students would normally be expected to also enrol for MARI 419
but under exceptional circumstances, exemption is possible with
permission from the Head of Department.
Assessment:
Internal Assessment 50%
Final Exam 50%
