MSc by Thesis Only

Overview

Students who have completed a year of postgraduate papers, or who have another suitable (approved) qualification, may apply to study for the MSc by thesis only. They will ordinarily be expected to complete their thesis within one year. The Head of Department must approve thesis topics and students must have at least one supervisor from within the Department of Marine Science. Students conducting thesis research may be based at 310 Castle Street, at the Portobello Marine Laboratory or in one of the departments associated with the sciences programme. Thesis-only students who have gained their postgraduate qualifications from other departments of the University of Otago, or from other universities, may be required to enrol in one or more papers as necessary to strengthen their background in Marine Science.
