Use and Hire of the University Research Vessel “Polaris II”

The RV Polaris II is available for teaching, research and commercial activities. The vessel is operated by the Department of Marine Science on behalf of the Division of Sciences. However, scheduling, charging, modifications and equipping is overseen by the vessel management committee. Although the committee meets regularly to consider requests, the main scheduling meeting is held during the first week of September for the following calendar year. Requests received at other times will be considered if scheduling permits. Priority will be given to teaching activitiesrequested at the September meeting.

The Master (Bill Dickson) is responsible for arranging the schedule and any requirements should be discussed with him in the first instance. The Marine Science Departmental Administrator (Mrs Chris Fitzpatrick) is responsible for charging, quotations and contracts for hire.

All requests for scheduling can only be confirmed once a quotation for the hire has been accepted. The location, nature, time and duration of intended work is needed before a quote can be provided.
