Welcome to MIntStAA - The Master of International Studies Alumni Association (MIntStAA)
The launch of the new MIntSt website marks an important new stage in the development of the International Studies programme at the University of Otago. The Master of International Studies Alumni Association (MIntStAA) is a student-driven initiative which is being launched concurrently with the website. Its purpose is to bring together prospective, current and former students to share experiences, ideas and information, while at the same time helping to promote the ongoing academic programme for the general benefit of all.
While none of us will share exactly the same career, it is our belief and experience that many of us share common interests and aspirations that are perhaps peculiar to MIntSt students. MIntSt students comprise a unique community representing a diverse range of experiences and backgrounds. The course's international focus and its high overseas students roll, mean that almost by definition its graduates will be taking their skills and knowledge around the world.
The Master of International Studies multi-disciplinary approach to teaching and the selection of students with wide and varied backgrounds are factors which lead to much cross-pollination of ideas, and experiences in the teaching environment.
With this in mind it is intended that MIntStAA will function as a social and professional network to enable both past and present students to remain in touch and to develop social and professional relationships.
It is proposed that the association will:
- Produce a regular newsletter.
- Seek to attract guest speakers for the programme
- Disseminate information on employment, research and scholarship opportunities
- Arrange reunions/social events
- Develop relationships with govt bodies such as MFAT or international focused NGO’s like Oxfam
