Leaving your family and home to live in another city where everything is unfamiliar and new can be stressful. Homesickness and/or loneliness is something that many students have to overcome when they start university. If you are feeling homesick or lonely it is helpful to talk to someone - either your parents or family, a sympathetic friend, or someone at the University. There are some links to helpful University sites below. Don't let your homesickness or loneliness get to the point where you want to drop out. The University has produced a brochure on helping you with homesickness which you can download from the Chaplain's website. Alternatively, you can ask for help from one or more of the following:
- Student Health
- Maori Centre
- Pacific Islands Centre
- Disability Information & Support
For more about your health and well-being while you are at Otago see the Healthy Campus website.
