Study-life balance

Studying all the time is not necessarily the best way to do well in first year. Even though your studies may often be demanding, it is important to make time for social activities and relaxation. Some good ways to find the balance between the academic, social and family aspects of your life include:

  • Taking a break between study sessions
  • Organising social activities with friends and/or family
  • Cleaning up your room/house/flat
  • Doing the grocery shopping

Otago University offers many social-based clubs and activities. When you arrive at Otago, check out the Students' Association and Recreation Services.. If you are living in a College or are registered for the Locals programme, there will be lots of events and activities there that you can get involved in. Having a strong social network and a good group of friends will help you to have a successful first year.
