Applications for 2010 entrance must be submitted by September 1st 2009.
AUDITIONS WILL BE HELD IN DUNEDIN ON SEPTEMBER 26 AND 27 AND ON THE AFTERNOON OF OCTOBER 16.
All students applying for admission to the Department of Music's Performance degrees and diplomas are strongly advised to attend the audition in person at the Department of Music. We endeavour to send offers of places by the end of October. Applicants who are unable to attend either of the times allocated for auditions will be required to send a high quality DVD for consideration. This needs to be with the Secretary with your completed application form by September 1st. Late applications/auditions will be considered only in exceptional circumstances.
DVD Auditions: Please introduce yourself in English and speak about your audition programme.
The Audition consists of:
Piano accompaniment will be provided for the audition. However, you may bring your own accompanist if you wish.
The Panel consist of members of the performance staff.

Three contrasting pieces from the concert repertoire to last in total no longer than 15 minutes.
One unaccompanied folk song to be sung in English, and two contrasting songs from the standard classical repertoire.
Two contrasting studies, etudes, or movements from pieces in the concert repertoire, lasting no longer than 10 minutes in total, to be performed unaccompanied.
Three contrasting pieces from the concert repertoire to last in total no longer than 15 minutes.

Candidates should perform the following:
Candidates should present their performance professionally and on a finely tuned instrument. The audition will be assessed on the basis of musical and technical competence, and on the standard of the instrument.
Candidates should be at the RNZPBA Intermediate Certificate level of competence for light music, with clear potential to achieve the playing standard required of the Advanced Certificate by the end of the Piping Performance 1 Paper. Candidates must be technically and musically proficient in piobaireachd to a New Zealand B grade standard.
