Degree Structures in Music
Undergraduate level (1st, 2nd & 3rd years at University)
Bachelor of Music
Music can be studied as a major subject for the Bachelor of Music (MusB) degree, which usually takes three years. It is possible to major in the following areas:
- Classical Music
- Classical Music Performance
- Composition
- Contemporary Music Performance
- Music Studies
- Popular Music
- World Music
Bachelor of Arts in Music
Music can also be studied as a major subject for a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree, leading to a BA in Music. The BA in Music, which usually takes three years, provides the opportunity to study a wider range of non-Music papers because it must include at least 9 Music papers whereas the MusB must include at least 16 Music papers.
Music as a Minor subject
Music can be studied as a minor subject for a Bachelor of Arts (BA), a Bachelor of Theology (BTheol), a Bachelor of Science (BSc) and Bachelor of Commerce (BCom).
At least five music papers are needed for a minor, two at 100-level, two at 200-level and one at 300-level.

- Music Technology
- Music Industry
- Classical Music
- Popular Music
- Music
Honours Level
Both the MusB and the BA in Music can be studied to honours level. The honours degree usually takes four years:
- MusB (Hons)
- BA Music (Hons) Music is included in the BA major in Performing Arts Studies.
