While composers in the popular music industry are predominantly preoccupied with songwriting, there are other avenues, both creative and financial, which they can pursue. This could include anything from jingles, to music for film or television, to writing a musical for a local high school. This paper develops songwriting skills learned in MUSI 135 but also introduces the concept of commercial composition, or writing to a given brief.
