NHFC 406: Editing and Post-production

New for 2005 intake – still to be approved

Changes from 2005/06
A number of improvements to the diploma course are being mooted for the 2005/06 intake. These include:

  • Replacement of DESI 411 with an entirely new course (ZOOL 419/NHFC 406) designed specifically for the diploma.
  • Revamping of NHFC 401 to concentrate more exclusively on camera and editing skills
  • Revamping of NHFC 403 to concentrate on creative non-fiction writing
  • Revamping of NHFC 405 to include more on the history and critiquing of documentaries

NHFC 406 (Zool 419) Proposed New Course

To replace DESI 411 (which is being discontinued in June 2005), a new paper specifically tailored for the Postgraduate Diploma in Natural History Filmmaking and Communication is being formulated.

This new paper has yet to go through the formal approval process. While it is likely to be called NHFC 406 eventually, until the approval process is completed it will be taught under the provisions for Special Topics papers and have the designation ZOOL 419.

It is proposed that this paper will be taught initially in the 1st Semester of 2006 and that it will concentrate on aspects of post-production designed to create impact. This is likely to include:

  • Elements of design theory
  • Use of still photography
  • Graphics and special effects
  • Sound and sound effects
  • Music
  • Creating titles and credits
