The Postgraduate Diploma in Natural History Filmmaking and Communication
is unique in that it is a university course. Rather than being taught
solely by academics, it taught by both practitioners and academics.
This means that it provides the best of both worlds: academic rigour
with the authenticity that comes from being taught by some of the
best in the business of factual filmmaking and communication.
The course director is Associate Professor Lloyd
Spencer Davis, ably assisted by teaching fellows Stephen
Downes and Paul Donovan. Richard
Thomas co-ordinates nhnz’s association with the course.
Mark McGuire is the co-ordinator for the
design paper.
A large number of the producers, directors, camera operators, editors,
sound operators and technical experts from nhnz’s
staff contribute to the course.
Additionally, many experts (filmmakers, writers,
artists) are brought in to give their perspective on filmmaking,
storytelling and communication.
