Bruce's research is based on his practise as a Pharmacist specialising in treatment-resistant mental health disorders with expertise in clinical psychopharmacology. He predominately use magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and behavioural assessments to investigate patient responses to drug treatment.
To date, he has undertaken research with patient groups who’ve suffered from schizophrenia, depression, anxiety or addiction to methamphetamine or the opioids. He has also undertaken clinal trials to investigate the metabolism and quantify the effects of other recreationally used drugs on the brain.
Unfortunately, a significant number of patients don’t respond well to first – or even second-line drug treatments so his overall aim is to improve patient outcomes by identifying biomarkers that could be used to predict an individual’s response to the drugs used in psychiatry.
This lecture will be followed with light refreshments, tea, coffee and juice.
