The Matariki Network of Universities opens up an array of opportunities to collaborate for quality. The Libraries across the Network have embarked on a benchmarking project with the aim of providing a shared response to the question: If we enable and support the academic endeavor, how do we measure our effectiveness?
The project is a collaborative activity based benchmarking exercise involving comparisons within the Network. The comparisons include a selected number of services and activities that are similar across the institutions and are representative of overall library service provision.
In the first stage of the project the focus is on support for teaching and learning, specifically activities and programs that support the transition of first year students into University life. To simplify the process the Libraries have shared details in relation to a specific cohort of students through responding to a series of questions within an online workspace.
This forum will provide an overview of the process undertaken in setting up the project. This will include how participation was established and on-going collaboration is fostered, including the creation and use of an online workspace. Initial findings from the first stage and lessons learnt will be shared from both those managing the project and those participating in it.
Speaking will be:
- Howard Amos (University Librarian, University of Otago)
- Jon Purcell (University Librarian, Durham University)
- Simon Hart (Benchmarking project manager, University of Otago)
Of interest to those involved with student retention, the presentation will include details from across the Network on the challenges and responses to issues with transition into University life.
This forum will provide a chance for those considering opportunities within the Matariki Network of Universities to consider the approach taken by the project entitled: Collaboration for Quality: the Matariki Network of Libraries Benchmarking.
