Student Professional Development - legal research seminar

The Law Library, in conjunction with the Faculty of Law, are offering you the opportunity to gain valuable insights into legal research skills in the workplace, from the experts themselves.

During the first session, recent graduate Michael Beck, law partner Bernadette Farnan, and a senior member of the Community Law Centre, Caryl O’Conner, will talk to you about their experiences and expectations in doing legal research.

Then you’ll hear from the trainers themselves: all three major NZ legal database companies, and the law firm librarians have a few words to say about legal research skills.

After a light luncheon, sponsored by CCH WestlawNZ and LexisNexisNZ, there will be three 50 minute-long presentations from the database trainers. They will demonstrate how to get the best out of their products, and will showcase resources of particular usefulness for practise-based research. They will also present you with a certificate of attendance to add to your CV.

We understand you may have lectures to attend, so there is no requirement to attend all three database demonstrations; you can come and go, to fit your timetable.

Registration to the event is free of charge, however, please RSVP to the Law Librarian, Kate Thompson (kate.thompson@otago.ac.nz ) by Thursday 14th March, indicating the vendor presentations you will attend.
