Bioethics Seminar | How to think about enhancement: A welfarist approach

Presented by Hazem Zohny, Bioethics Centre

How should we understand the concept of enhancement? I present here an account of enhancement that characterises it as any biological or psychological change that tends to improve a person's well-being. I use the case of moral enhancement to highlight some of the challenges facing this approach and to clarify its implications. Finally, I sketch out a proposal that deploys this welfarist approach as a response to the concern that enhancements may exacerbate inequalities or heighten distributive injustice.

All welcome
