Call for Abstracts
The New Zealand Institute of Chemistry (NZIC), New Zealand Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (NZSBMB) and the New Zealand Society of Plant Biologists (NZSPB) Conference organising committee invites you to present original work relating to the areas of interest detailed below at a conference to be held at the University of Otago, Dunedin, New Zealand, November 30 – December 4, 2008.
- NZIC Abstracts are invited for contributions to sessions in the following specialist areas: Biochemistry & Molecular Biology; Environmental & Analytical Chemistry; Inorganic & Organometallic Chemistry (which will include a Symposium to mark the retirements of Professors Brian Robinson and Jim Simpson); Marine Biogeochemistry; Organic & Medicinal Chemistry; Physical and Theoretical Chemistry; Plant biology.
- NZSBMB Abstracts are invited for contributions to sessions in the following specialist areas: Macromolecular Structure and Function; Genes Structure and Function; Biomolecules and Environment; Health and Nutrition; Animal and Plant Biotechnology; Cell Signaling and Regulation.
- NZSPB Abstracts are invited for contributions to sessions in the following specialist areas: Plant Physiology and Ecophysiology; Plant Biochemistry and Molecular Biology; Plant Development and Functional Plant Biology.
- Abstracts are invited for the Education at the Interface session being held on Tuesday 2 December
- Rutherford Session - abstracts from the invited Rutherford Medal winners.
Contributions will either be as oral presentations or as posters, available for viewing during the conference.
Procedure for Applications
Abstracts should fit on an A5 page (approximately 100 x 160 mm) including all text and diagrams and should be submitted electronically as a Microsoft word document email attachment to Theresa Renault before August 1 2008.

Clearly indicate in the email subject line which specialist area the submission should be considered for.
Please send the Abstract as a Microsoft Word document using the following settings:
- Font setting - Arial Narrow, size 11.
- Line spacing must be 1.5.
- Alignment must be justified.
- Title of paper should be bold and in CAPITALS.
- First name, surname & affiliation of Author(s)
- Name of presenter should de underlined.
- Affiliation should be in italics.
- Tables and diagrams may be included but the Abstract must fit on an A5 page.
- Indicate if oral or poster presentation.
In the body of the e-mail (or in a separate attachment) please provide your full contact details, including postal address, telephone number, fax number and email address. Please also indicate your preference for oral or poster presentation. If your presentation is not accepted as an oral presentation, please indicate if you would like it to be considered for a poster presentation. The Programme Committee is responsible for the final selection and the time allocated to oral presentations.
Oral presentations will be allocated 20 minutes = 15 minute presentation and 5 minute discussion
Poster presentations maximum size = Portrait 1.4 metres high by 1.0 metres wide.

Has been extended to 5pm, 29 August 2008
Notification of acceptance
By email on or before September 19, 2008

Abstracts will be uploaded to the society websites in PDF format after the conference. If you do not wish your abstract to be publish on the internet please advise when you submit your paper.
