Vice-Chancellor Professor Harlene Hayne is delighted the University of Otago has received the highest possible international quality rating of five-stars-plus from QS Stars.

“We are in extremely good company with other prestigious universities from around the world who have scored the same maximum rating," she says.

"It's reassuring for students to know that their decision to study at Otago is supported internationally by the new star rating.”

QS Stars assigns ratings to universities based on their performance in institution-wide reviews. The rating system aims to help students make informed decisions while choosing between leading universities around the world.

QS describes a five-star-plus rating as a mark of quality and excellence that is awarded to a university which is not just world-class, but an elite destination to which the very best students and faculty worldwide will aspire. QS believes the brand names of those universities should transform the résumé of anyone connected with them.

The University of Otago was audited across a broad range of criteria, and scored especially highly in teaching, employability, research, internationalisation, facilities, innovation and inclusiveness.
