The image for April 2017’s digital calendar, curtains in a Vancouver hotel, was taken by Associate Professor Michael Robertson of the Faculty of Law.
Associate Professor Michael Robertson of the Faculty of Law dumped his bags in his Vancouver hotel room, unpacked his camera, and rushed to get the shot which has become April 2017's Bulletin Board digital calendar.
Our digital calendar, released each month, features the 12 winning and notable entries from the previous year’s Bulletin Board photo competition.
Associate Professor Robertson tied for third place in last year’s competition, alongside Raelene Inglis of the Division of Health Sciences, with his photo taken in the stairway of an old hotel in Vancouver.
“I had carried our bags up to our room via the stairs, since there was no elevator. The stairs had windows with sheer curtains, and as I puffed by I noticed how the light was hitting them. As soon as I dumped the bags I unpacked my camera and went down to grab some shots before the light changed. I like the picture because it turns the curtains into an abstract image, and because it shows how ordinary things are often beautiful if you pay the proper kind of attention to them. I’ve been trying to pay the proper kind of photographic attention for a long time now, with varying results.”
