Scholarships for Pacific students
The University of Otago has a large and generous scholarships scheme, with some scholarships specifically available to people of Pacific descent. Study grants are also available to Pacific students to study at postgraduate level.
This page provides an up-to-date list of current scholarships, both University of Otago scholarships as well as those provided by other organisations. All students are strongly encouraged to find out if there are scholarships for which they are eligible.
First year and undergraduate scholarships

- University of Otago Maori & Pacific Islands Entrance Scholarship - $10,000 scholarship established by the University of Otago Council in 2005 to celebrate academic excellence and cultural diversity, these scholarships are intended to encourage the progression of Maori and Pacific Islands students into tertiary study
- University of Otago Study Grants for Maori & Pacific Islands Students - $3000 scholarship for Māori and Pacific Islands students progressing to their fourth year of study
- New Horizons for Women Trust Second Chance Training & Education Award Awards to help women return to education and training
- Barbara Wood Memorial Foundation Scholarship - up to $1000 per year towards tertiary study for students born in the South Pacific region.
Postgraduate scholarships

- Maori and Pacific Islands Conference Funding Assistance - limited funding to assist full-time graduate research candidates with attending conferences in New Zealand or overseas
- University of Otago Pacific Islands Masters Scholarship - $13,000 per annum for domestic or international students of Pacific Islands descent wanting to undertake a thesis-based Masters degree (Application form)
- University of Otago Pacific Islands Doctoral Scholarship - $20,000 per annum for domestic or international students of Pacific Islands descent wanting to undertake PhD/Professional doctoral study in their chosen field of research (Application Form)
- Lottery Health Research PhD Scholarships (PDF, 150KB) - $28,333 per annum (max of 3 years) for PhD students planning a career in health research
