Bachelor of Arts
Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Pacific Islands Studies
For many qualifications the name of the degree or diploma shows the area of specialisation (e.g. LLB, BPhty) and there may be restricted choice or even no choice in the papers taken. For many others, however, the title of the qualification is more general (e.g. BA, BSc) but there is a choice of specialisations called either major subjects or endorsements.
The major in Pacific Islands Studies is one of the endorsements for the Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree and is a multidisciplinary major made up from papers in Te Tumu, History, Film and Media Studies, Anthropology, Art History, Music and Geography.
A student must pass 162 points in Pacific Islands Studies as follows: 36 points for 100-level; 54 points for 200-level and 72 points for 300-level papers. These are minimum requirements and students who wish to include more Pacific Island related papers are welcome to do so.
