Welcome to the Performing Arts Studies Programme
Kia ora, haere mai.
Welcome to Performing Arts Studies at Otago.
Otago's Bachelor of Arts in Performing Arts Studies is unique in New Zealand. This special collaboration between the university's programmes in Theatre, Music, Dance, Maori Studies and Design Studies gives students a rare opportunity to study a variety of art forms.
Drawing on a range of methods, approaches and media, Performing Arts Studies at Otago offers students an engaging, challenging combination of practical skills and academic training, preparing them for a multitude of careers both within and beyond the performing arts and creative industries.
We have access to a fully equipped theatre (Allen Hall) and to Music and Dance studios. This means students are given the opportunity to take part and perform in our regular Dance, Music and Lunchtime Theatre programmes.
Important Note: From 2013 no new students will be accepted for Performing Arts Studies as a major or minor subject
The Performing Arts major and minor is to be phased out in preparation for a proposed new specialist degree.
PERF101 will not be offered from 2013
As a result we will not be accepting new students into Performing Arts Studies in 2013 and will not be offering PERF101.
What happens to students who have already completed PERF101 and are enrolled in a major or minor in Performing Arts Studies?
Those students who have already completed PERF101 and are enrolled in a major or minor in Performing Arts Studies
- will be able to complete their qualification but
- must complete both PERF201 and PERF301 in 2013 (prerequisites will be altered to make this possible)
