Traditionally ‘eportfolios’ are understood to be about graduate CVs or collections of evidence to demonstrate competence for a profession; something that students are encouraged to engage with towards the end of their degree in preparation for moving into employment. As portfolio use has matured and tools have evolved we are increasingly finding that they are central to overcoming a variety of challenges faced by Higher Education institutions and to enhancing teaching and learning strategies more broadly.
Internationally this maturing of portfolio practice is increasingly evident in support of the full student life cycle – preparation; application; orientation; core curricular; work-based learning; extra-curricular; research; HEAR (Higher Education Achievement Report, UK); transition to employment; and re-validation. The ‘portfolio’ is becoming part of a Personal Learning Platform which supports the student throughout their learning journey and provides them with true control and ownership over their learning content.
This presentation will showcase examples of innovative portfolio practice from across the UK, Australasia and North America. We invite you to come along and gather ideas for how portfolios might value add to your programs.
Those who are interested are invited to stay behind for an introduction to PebblePad, the Personal Learning Platform, to see the system in action and find out about some of the core functionality.
