Summer research scholarship
Carrie Falling (supervised by Dr Daniel Ribeiro) and Caden Shields (supervised by Dr Ram Mani) were recipients of Divisional Health Science Scholarships. The divisional scholarships involve a programme a ten-week research project over the summer break.
Carrie and Dan's project was on 'Shoulder muscle activity during an innovative shoulder rehabilitation exercise'. Results indicated that rotator cuff muscles were recruited during this exercise and participants were able to moderate the participation of surrounding musculature.
Diabetes Mellitus and exercise
Caden and Ram's project was on 'The measurement of Physical Activity levels in adults who are at high risk of developing Diabetes Mellitus: an observational study'. Results highlight the need for the inclusion of behavioural changes interventions targeting such factors to increase physical activity in this population.
