Monday, 21 November 2016

kenew88pLooking at the role of manual therapy in concussion related symptoms is the focus of a recently awarded postdoctoral fellowship to Dr Ewan Kennedy.

The Postdoctoral position is enabled by a grant from the Alumni of the University of Otago in America, Inc (AUOA). The position supports a one-year Postdoctoral position in Orthopaedic Manual Therapy (OMT). The Centre for Health, Activity, and Rehabilitation Research (CHARR), School of Physiotherapy was delighted to receive this funding.

OMT research is an established and productive research area for CHARR, contributed to by a number of academic staff and graduate students. The Postdoctoral position will help to support growth and development of OMT research within CHARR and act as a catalyst for further research in the field.

The awardee, Dr Ewan Kennedy, is a New Zealand registered manual therapist.

“This postdoctoral award offers an opportunity to promote an area I love to work in and further New Zealand’s strong international contributions in manual therapy” Dr Kennedy says.

“Manual therapy has broadened its scope over the years, and most private or outpatient clinicians use a range of skills to achieve great outcomes with clients. I am particularly interested in research that evaluates and promotes Physiotherapy’s role in healthcare, and supports clinicians to make informed decisions about how best to care for their patients”

Working with Ewan on this project are Drs Steve Tumilty and Cathy Chapple, both established OMT clinicians and researchers.
