Philip Nel received his DPhil in Philosophy from the University of Stellenbosch in 1984. He was Professor and Head of the Department of Political Science at the University of Stellenbosch, South Africa, until 2002. Since 2003, he is Professor in the Department of Politics at the University of Otago, New Zealand, where he was Head of the Department from 2007 to 2010. He has been visiting Professor in Germany and Japan, and is a Professor Extraordinaire at the University of Stellenbosch, South Africa.
He teaches Global Governance (4th year), Global Political Economy (2nd year), and Ethics and International Relations (3rd year).
Philip was one of the founding editors of the International Studies Association journal Foreign Policy Analysis, and serves on the editorial boards of Global Society and International Studies Perspectives.
