Vicki received her DPhil in political theory from the University of Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar from South Australia. Before coming to New Zealand in July 2006, she was a lecturer at the University of Adelaide.
Her research interests include: 17th and 18th century European thought, the German philosopher Johann Gottfried Herder, and contemporary political theory with a particular focus on multiculturalism, nationalism, communitarianism, and the concepts of recognition and toleration.
She has published book chapters and various journal articles most recently in The Review of Politics and Nations and Nationalism. She is the co-editor of Disclosures (Ashgate, 2000) and a special edition of the Australian Journal of Politics and History: Rethinking Nationalism (1997). Her most recent publication is her book, Herder's Political Thought: A Study on Language, Culture and Community (Toronto University Press, 2012). She is currently working on a co-edited book with Takashi Shogimen in the History Department on Peace Visions: Asia and the West to be published by Ashgate.
