August to celebrate postgraduate research

2010 brings a renewed emphasis on postgraduate research at Otago with the instigation of the University’s first Graduate Research Month in August.

The focus on postgraduate research over the four week period will concentrate events which have previously taken place throughout the year, and also promises to be the launching pad of several new initiatives aimed at celebrating postgraduate research at Otago.

“By bringing these events together at that time of year we will ensure that the contribution postgraduate students and postgraduate research students in particular make to the research strength of the University, as well as to the wider community, is recognised,” said Graduate Research Services Director, Dr Charles Tustin.

Events already scheduled include the ever-popular Supervisor of the Year Awards and the Three Minute Thesis competition, which returns after a successful inaugural event in 2009.

Also included will be research and writing workshops, a quality forum, and postgraduate information evenings in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin. The month will conclude with a Graduate Research Ball at Dunedin’s famous landmark, Larnach Castle.
