The University of Otago has more than 4000 postgraduate students across its campuses in Dunedin, Christchurch and Wellington and studying in their own homes via distance.

If our undergraduate students are the bread and butter of a university, these postgraduate students are the jam –bright, articulate and energetic Otago graduates and graduates from other universities around the world who are attracted here because of our quality research teams.

In the 20-plus years I have worked at Otago, I've supervised more than 40 such students – masters and doctoral candidates who have taught me as much as I've taught them. Whether contributing in taught classes, through conversations long distance, or through their research, postgraduate students bring value to any university. Read the rest of the foreword...
