Ann Thwaite

Ann Thwaite was born in London, the daughter of two New Zealanders who moved to Britain in the 1920s. All four of her grandparents were born in the South Island in the nineteenth century; she herself spent the war years as a child in the North Island. In England, Ann has published five major biographies, including A.A. Milne: his life, which won the Whitbread Prize for the best biography of 1990. She is married to the British poet Anthony Thwaite. Her new book is Passageways, a family history.
