Barbara BrookesProfessor Brookes is the Head of the History Department at the University of Otago. Her research interests include gender relations in New Zealand, and the history of health and disease in New Zealand and Britain. Her publications include Sites of Gender: Women, Men & Modernity in Southern Dunedin, 1890–1939 (Auckland University Press, 2003), with Robin Law and Annabel Cooper, and At Home in New Zealand: History, Houses and People (Bridget Williams Books 2000). She is co-editor of Communities of Women: Historical Perspectives. (Otago University Press, 2002) and 'Unfortunate Folk': Essays on Mental Health Treatment 1863–1992 (Otago University Press, 2001).
