Kay McKenzie Cooke

I am an ex-Southlander who lives and works in Dunedin. My first book of poetry, 'feeding the dogs', was published in 2002. It won the Best First Book of Poetry in 2003.

I write mainly poetry, but have recently written some short stories that have had some success in competitions. In 2006 I won the Dan Davin Foundation short story competition with my short story 'Where The Trees Lean Sideways'. I also received a Highly Commended in another short story competition this year, 2007.

I also like to write what can only be described as formal Journal entries, or Chronicles. I have no idea what to do with these! I have a blog as well, which I incorporate into my website.

My interests are few - writing, reading, walking, blogging. Lately I have been taking photos with a Canon digital camera gifted to me by my sister (bless her.) A Wind Harp. Poems by Cilla McQueen. Otago University Press.

I enjoy attending and taking part in local poetry readings, and have had some part in organising these as well.

My family have now all grown up. I am a grandmother and a mother-in-law. I am teaching full-time at Montessori at the Gardens.

I am married to Robert. We recently celebrated our 31st wedding anniversary.
