Ways of Using Kiwi Phonics

Classroom Use

Kiwi Phonics Level 3 coverCore Reading Programme – use Kiwi Phonics books as a primary strategy to teach letter sound relationships through direct instruction on whiteboard and also one on one. Follow the sequence of the books, starting with Level 1, Book 1, for the best results.

Guided Reading – use Kiwi Phonics books in the Guided Reading experience. This will ensure phonemic awareness, letter sounds and decoding skills are a daily part of your literacy curriculum.

Buddy Reading – after the letter sounds of each book have been taught through direct instruction, use Kiwi Phonics books as a buddy reading tool with which children can practise new skills.

Dictation – use Kiwi Phonics as a dictation tool to ensure children understand that we write with the same letter sounds that we read with.

Reading Homework – send Kiwi Phonics books home, along with other readers, to reinforce classroom learning of letter sounds, phonemic awareness and decoding skills.
