Qualifications

BPharm (Otago 2009), PGCert(2015...almost)

Current Position

Just left my position as a Paediatric Pharmacist at Gisborne Hospital and moving to a new position at Wellington Hospital as a Clinical Pharmacist.

Positions since graduation

Internship at Wellington Hospital, David Moore Community Pharmacy 2 years, Gisborne Hospital 3 years.

A few lines about your current role

I am moving into a rotational position to gain more experience across different wards and areas such as Medicines Information. I am hoping to take a new spin on my job here in Wellington and learn something not Pharmacy related but something that will help me in my Pharmacy career!

Any comments about your Otago experience?

Studying at Otago was always the way for me. Pharmacy found me rather than me wanting a career in Pharmacy as I had little knowledge about what the professional really was. I think other doors closed for me and this one opened and I wouldn't be here today if it wasn't for the overall Otago experience and the Pharmacy school!

Any other comments?

I have a passion for Pacific Health and also for Māori health having lived in Gisborne for the last 3 years. I have a much better appreciation for the culture as I have been literally immersed in it, visits to the Marae's up the coast, powhiri, food experiences and Te Reo. Health statistics for PI and Māori do not differ a lot and I've learnt the only way that we will change the disparities in health are actually making the effort to know and understand the culture. Without that, we will never change the system no matter what all our knowledge is about medications!
